There are 2 reasons for that:
First of all, they love what they do (the entire team is dedicated to this one company, and it shows in their work).
Second of all, like I said, they have a small list of developers they work with on a regular basis, which ensures a constant flow of projects.
They don’t want to risk attracting bad developers. In fact, the reason they’ve been working like this is, so they stay away from those people.
But now, they’re looking to expand a little more. So, they’re willing to let a handful of new developers in on the action.
Shield Building has been under the radar for a long time.
Away from the spotlight, but consistently bringing developers very significant profits (improving their margin on development beyond the 16-20% ‘acceptable’ profit).
Imagine getting that kind of profit from every project.
Pretty significant, right?
In fact, here’s what Ella, founder of Shield Building, had to say about this:
We don’t want anyone’s reputation to go down the drain. Not for ourselves, and DEFINITELY not for the developers we work with.
By the way, we’re a family company here. If we mess up in any way, shape, or form, all of us are taking a massive hit. And we love Melbourne. We’ve been building here for over 15 years. We cannot allow our reputation to go down, forcing us to relocate. It’s just not going to happen.
This kind of dedication is possibly the biggest reason we’re still in business.
That’s why developers are coming back to us with new projects, because they know we consistently deliver the goods, we save them a load of cash, and we build extremely high-quality homes incredibly fast.
This is serious business, and we treat it as such.
People’s livelihoods are on the line, and we’re providing people with a place to live.
There’s NO WAY we’re going to take that lightly!
So instead of aggressively marketing ourselves out there, looking for a quantity of developers to work with, we simply choose quality.
And we want to keep it that way.
The truth is, we put a lot of time and energy into each and every single project we do.
That’s why, for every new home we build, we make sure there’s someone on site every single day.
A member of our team supervises the entire process, so no ‘unexpected’ problems arise out of the blue.
Of course, we wouldn’t be able to give you such predictable numbers if we didn’t have everything laid out properly before we start.
(I’m talking about the guarantee that when we say a building is going to cost this much, it does - not a cent more.)
So, to always provide you with factual information, we also do a detailed blueprint of every process we go through (so everything is as precise as possible).
The time frames are also strictly met (due to that ferocious attention to detail I just mentioned). A 4-unit building takes us 7 months, for example.
While we know of builders that take up to 12 months (even longer) to finish this kind of job, we know (and we’ll show you) that we can do it faster AND better.
Because we aren’t ‘most builders.
That’s why a lot of projects are having trouble.
The reason being is that most building companies are spreading themselves very thin.
And while they’re pocketing crazy amounts of money (and keeping you from doing the same), the quality of the build takes a hit.
When you’re being pulled in so many directions, it becomes increasingly difficult to focus on details, quality, the developer’s satisfaction.
And since the developer is the one in charge, you won’t be seeing us trying to speed up the process at the expense of quality of work.
In fact, here are a few of the things we provide on EVERY single project:
